Leadership at East Coast

At East Coast we follow the pattern we see in scripture for church leadership. Throughout the New Testament we see church leadership spoken of as Elders and Deacons. In his letter to the Philippians, Paul specifically directs it to the saints, overseers (Elders) and Deacons. Also in 1 Timothy 3 Paul instructs Timothy as to the qualifications of Elders and Deacons in the local church. We believe that following the pattern set forth in the scriptures assures us of administrating the life of the local church the way God has prescribed it. For more on elders click here.

Beyond the government of the church we believe that God has given us a clear mandate to operate in team. We see team modeled throughout the New Testament and we believe that when we operate in team we operate from a place of strength. We do not elevate a "few" gifted ones to do the ministry, but we believe in the priesthood of all believers (1 Peter 2), which means we make room for each individual to function in their gifts and callings. Each of the Eldership couples on the team have different areas of oversight in the life of the church. We believe this not only helps us fulfill the requirement of scripture that calls elders to "oversee" the flock of God but it also helps us fulfill the call to "shepherd" as well. (1 Peter 5:2)
